It is the one line that runs the whole width of the house, and it has open sky behind it, which is why light on it reads from a distance. Put light on it and the house has an edge again, which is most of what people mean when they say a house looks good lit.That is the reason the roofline gets the hardware, and the reason a single run there does more than fixtures scattered around the yard. What roofline lighting actually consists of
Roofline lighting is an aluminum channel matched to your trim with LEDs set into it, fastened along the roof edge and left there. That channel is doing double duty, holding the diodes and keeping them out of sight. Matched to the trim, it reads as part of the house at noon.

Daylight is the other half of the design
A roofline system is on the house every day, lit or unlit. That is why the channel gets matched to your trim rather than sold in one color. Mount it tight to the edge, match the trim, and hide the wiring, and nothing about the daylight view changes.
What you do with it once it is up
After install control is an app. Warm white on an ordinary Tuesday. Holiday colors for the season. A single color for Halloween. Team colors before a game. Most owners settle on a single warm white, using color for the handful of days that call for it.
What drives the size of the job
Rooflines do not scale with house size. Linear feet is the first one, but it is not the main one. Complexity does more: straight runs are quick, and every corner, peak and level change adds work. Two stories changes the job.
Does it go on the gutter?
The gutter is the first thing people point at. A permanent channel does not work that way. Fastening to the roof edge is why the run stays true.
